Following on from the success of last year’s event in Sotogrande, El Intercambio are staging a second Battle of the Bands this month at Louie Louie’s Rock’n’Roll Club in Estepona Port on Saturday, 12 October, from 9 pm.
This year there will be seven bands competing for prizes sponsored by The Corinthian Trust, Soto Cheval and Debanairs Nails’, including (at the time of going to press): Malaka Youth, Gremio, Headwires, Kathew, Queen Demon, Reggae Roots & Ubuntu, and Midnight State.
The bands will perform two original pieces and one cover and are judged on songwriting, musical accomplishment, stage presence/performance, originality for their original piece and interpretation for the cover song, and audience reaction.
The jury will be comprised of a number of judges from the local music scene: Curro Montero from Louie Louie’s, Estepona; Allan Alman from the Rock on the Rock Club, Gibraltar; Mark Fea from Studio 67; Sista Dee from Sista Dee & The Wise Up Crew; and last but not least Gary Beaumont from The Resident and EL Intercambio Radio.
Following the competitors’ performances, last year’s winners Orange Peel will take to the stage to entertain the audience whilst the judges deliberate, and there will be a special guest appearance by singer/guitarist/songwriter Chloe Lawrence.
This promises to be a great night of music, so make sure you get down and support these musicians. Tickets are just 3 euros, or 5 euros for a couple and are available on the door.
